Louis Jacques Filion is the chair of the Rogers-J.A. Bombardier. He is professor of entrepreneurship at HEC MONTREAL, the Montreal Business School. His specialty area is entrepreneurship. His academic background includes a B.A. (Classics) from St-Laurent College (University of Montreal) (1966), a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science from the University of Ottawa (1968), an M.A. in International Studies from the University of Ottawa (1974), an M.B.A. from H.E.C. Montreal (1976) and a Ph.D. in Systems and Entrepreneurship from the University of Lancaster, Great Britain (1988).

Dr. Filion’s broad professional experience in entrepreneurship and management includes the fields of human resources, operations management and marketing. He created and managed small businesses. He was also a management consultant with the firm Ernst & Young at their Montreal office. Dr. Filion was a professor at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR) from 1981 to 1993, and Director of the Master’s program in small business from 1986 to 1989. He went to work at HEC Montreal in 1993, and has held the Chair of Entrepreneurship since 1995.

In 2004, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Council of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE – CCPME) for his contribution to the field of entrepreneurship. In 2005, the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) awarded him its highest recognition, the Wilford White Fellowship, for his contribution to the progress of entrepreneurship in the world.

In 2006, he received the Julien-Marchesnay Award from the Association internationale de recherche en entrepreneuriat et PME (AIREPME), which is the Francophony’s main small business/entrepreneurship research association. In 2008, he received the prestigious Entrepreneurship Promotion Emeritus Award following the commitment that he demonstrated throughout his career to promote a culture of entrepreneurship to youth. This prestigious award was offered to him by the Québec Prime minister during the 28th gala des Mercuriades in Montreal.

Dr. Filion has more than 100 publications and 15 books. He is also author or co-author of more than 150 case studies. He has presented speeches on the subject of entrepreneurship on all five continents. He researches activity systems of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, the visionary process and creation of new ventures.
